Both the Barnesville and Jackson Housing Authorities give rising college students opportunities for scholarships through programs sponsored by the Housing Insurance Group (HIA) and Southeastern Affordable Housing Management Association (SAHMA). Please check with respective offices for details on these academic scholarships.
The Authorities are also dedicated to child safety and are active participants in programs for children including National Child Abuse Prevention Month. One program we are extremely proud of is the Darkness to Light program to end Child Sexual Abuse. We have on our staff a person who is certified to teach the Stewards of Children program and has taught more than 150 people in five different counties the Stewards of Children program. This program is the only nationally available program scientifically proven to increase knowledge, improve attitudes and change child-protective behaviors.
The Authorities also participate in several programs for our senior residents. We particpate in food drives for our seniors and have a community garden. Our staff's day rarely ends when the timeclock says the work day is over. Our staff members volunteer after hours and on weekends to provide our residents with programs to include holiday dinners and other such get togethers.
