Barnesville Housing History
The Barnesville Housing Authority was formed in the mid 1950's with the first 60 units being built in 1957-1959. Project 17001 consists of 30 units on Gordon Road, Chaffin St., Broyles Ave., and Woodall St.  At the same time 30 units  were being constructed on Lyons and Wilson Streets.  This is known as GA177002.  The cost of constructing these was approximately $600,000.  Each of these projects consisted of four one bedroom units, 14 two bedroom units, 10 three bedroom units and 2 four bedroom units.  Project 177001 was named Smith Homes and Project 177002 was named Bush Homes. 

The next phase of the construction was in 1971 and 1972 when  72 apartments were built at a cost of approximately $1 million.  This was project GA 177003 and was named Hillside Homes.  It is made up of 28 one bedroom units , 24 two bedroom units, 12 three bedroom units, and 8 four bedroom units.  They are located on Richardson St., Parkview, Sanders Court and Adams Court.

The last construction in 1981 and 1982 consisted of 72 apartments known as Towaliga Village.  These apartments are located  on Indian Trail, Navajo Court and Apache Court.  The cost of this property was approximately $2 Million.  There are 36 one bedroom units and 36 two bedroom units with central heat and air.  This property is a Section 8 New Construction Property.  It was financed by Farmers Home Administration.

The Barnesville Housing Authority is governed by a Board of 5 commissioners who are appointed by the City Council and Mayor for a term of 5 years.
